Pijao "Born from the stones" - Coyaima, Natagaima. Pixaos, Pyjaos and Pinaos, The Pijao people of the south of the Tolima department, as they call themselves today, are located in small groups in the municipalities of Coyaima, Natagaima, Ortega, Chaparral and San Antonio. The 2005 DANE census reported 58,810 people self-recognized as belonging to the Coyaima-Natagaima people.
The Pijao language is considered extinct; only lists of vocabulary from the mid-twentieth century compiled by other people are preserved.
