Paraná is a long river that rises in Brazil in central-eastern South America and flows in south, east and southwest directions through Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. It has a length of 2546 km (4001 km from the source of the Rio Grande), which makes it the second longest river in South America -afterthe Amazon-. It is a continuation of the Rio Grande, receiving its name from the Paraná River at the confluence with the Paranaíba River.
