Lemur: are strepsirrhine primates endemic to the island of Madagascar. They are named after the lemursThey are the ghosts or spirits of Roman mythology, due to the loud vocalizations they emit, their bright eyes and the nocturnal habits of some of their species.

Although often confused with ancestral primates, anthropoid primates (monkeys, hominoids and humans) did not evolve from lemurs, but from omomyids, although they do share some morphological and behavioral traits with basal primates.
