The Kayapó (Mebengokre, Kayapo or Caiapó) are an indigenous people inhabiting the flatlands of Mato Grosso and Pará, in Brazil, the central highlands, south of the Amazon.
Their language is called Mẽbêngôkre, belonging to the Gê linguistic family. This language is not exclusive to the Kayapó, but other ethnic groups that are considered separate, such as the Xikrin, speak another variant of the same language.
