Guajiros live in the arid Guajira peninsula in northern Colombia and in the area bordering Venezuela, eastward to Maracaibo, which is characterized by a dry steppe climate with little rainfall and temperatures reaching 40° Celsius.
The Guajiro language belongs to the Sarawak Linguistic Family. The number of inhabitants is close to 100,000 and a quarter of them live in Venezuela.
