Arhuaco: They are an Amerindian people who inhabit the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia), and speak a language of the Chibcha family. In 2005, 22,134 people were censused, and in 2018 34,711, who speak their own language. For the Arhuaca community, tobacco and coca leaf production are part of their tradition; they have cultivated it since its inception, which dates back more than 500 years. However, the community has not stopped growing it, and justifies its cultivation as a medicinal plant.
