Lake Amatitlán ( Lake Amatitlán , Spanish pronunciation: [laɣo amatiˈtlan] ) is a lake located within the caldera of Amatitlán caldera in south-central Guatemala relatively close to Guatemala City . It is located in the central highlands, at 1186 m (3890 ft) above sea level. Its maximum depth is 33 m (108 ft) and an average of 18 m (59 ft). The lake is 11 km (7 miles) long and 3 km (2 miles) wide at its widest part; with a surface area of 15.2 square kilometers (5.9 square miles) and a water volume of 0.286 cubic kilometers (0.286 cubic kilometers).
