Garcinia can be found in southern Mexico, Guatemala and northern South America. It is found in the montane forests of the Amazon, at altitudes of 50 to 400 m. In climates with average annual temperatures of 26 to 28 °C and average annual rainfall of 1,500 Tree, with a trunk 5 to 18 m high and 30 to 50 cm in diameter; it has cream to greenish-yellow sap and exudate. Its leaves are simple, opposite, distichous, 15 to 22 by 5 to 7 cm.
