Gildi in harmony with nature
Chambira, the chambira palm or chambira, is a large, thorny palm native to the Amazon rainforest in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, known mainly for its commercial value as a fiber crop.
Indigenous peoples use the fibers from the tender leaves to weave products such as nets, hammocks, bags and other textiles and textile products. In most places where this fiber is used, the sale of products woven from these fibers to tourists is an important source of income, although there is great geographic variation in the abundance and income received for products made from these fibers. In addition to the fibers, it is believed that the fruit and the liquid endosperm within the seeds may help reduce fever.
