Amacizo is a tree that can reach thirty meters in height. It typically branches close to the ground, forming a leafy crown at low altitude; the trunk may have large or small thorns. The leaves are divided into three "leaflets" or leaflets, ovate in shape, that is, wider in the basal area, but can be slightly elongated -oblong-. These leaflets are between 7 and 14 cm long, the tip is usually rounded and whitish, with tiny hairs that are lost with age, which contrasts with the dark green of the top. The flowers are bright orange, are grouped in clusters at the end of the branches, and the fruits are legumes, bean-like, up to 30 cm long. The seeds are brown with pits.
