Acérola is a shrub that measures between 3 and 5 m in height, with dark bark; it has numerous branches, generally directed upwards, fragile and short, which in the wild have thorns (cultivated species lack thorns). Its small fleshy fruit grows from a shrub originally in Central America. Acerola is a fruit very rich in vitamin C, one of the richest that nature has to offer. They are also rich in other antioxidants such as carotenoids, tannins and phenols. This makes it one of the most antioxidant foods known.
