Acapu is a timber tree that can reach up to 20 meters in height. It can be found from Nicaragua to Bolivia and Peru. In Colombia it is present in the rainforests of Magdalena Medio, Urabá, Chocó, Arauca, and the Amazon.

In traditional medicine, the Acapú is used to combat hepatitis, malaria and rheumatism. Its wood is widely valued, because its hardness is optimal for the construction of bridges, houses, and for the elaboration of posts, among others.
